I got that summertime, summertime stillness

Sometimes in the heat of summer, it can feel like everything stays still. As the employees of any given organization go on holiday, operations slow down and projects are left waiting for the autumn leaves to start falling, it might seem like nothing is happening during the summer days. But could you use the summertime stillness to your advantage?

It is true, that for many people summer is almost synonymous to holiday or taking it easier. And we love this; it is important to take time to recharge and rest, and not only during the summer holiday season, but also throughout the year! However, summertime can offer some good opportunities to working life as well.

As there might not be so many projects going on or started during the summer, this season can offer a chance to get up-to-date on other tasks – or even learn something new. For a software consultant, maybe this time offers a chance to learn a new technology or coding language? Or maybe there is more time to follow up on some industry news, to stay informed about the newest developments of AI or some other important topics?

For recruiters, summer can seem like the worst time to try to hire a new expert. But with other, competing companies probably thinking the same thing, the competition for talent might be easier to win during this season. There might also be some applicants, already looking for a change of pace well before autumn starts. Some potential applicants could be casually looking at job listings, and this might be a good time for you to stand out. We at Marvel Consulting don’t pause our recruiting processes for the summer; we’re always ready to find our next consultant.

But as said, even though the summer season presents some opportunities for working life, it is important to take time to yourself and stay away from work and computer screens. At the very least, you should try how a change of scenery could help with coping with work stress – it can do wonders for your mental wellbeing to spend some time of your workday outdoors. Remember to bring balance into your summer days!
