Customer Story: Project Parktech

Parktech is a parking industry company that has operated in Finland for over 30 years. Among other things, they offer installations of parking systems – one of which is located in the parking carage of the art museum WeeGee in Tapiola. The fare of the parking in the garage is determined by cameras pointed at the license plates of the entering and leaving cars, and there is a possibility to pay the fare on the spot. However, without any barriers, some drivers may not notice this, and leave without paying the fare. Marvel Consulting came in to help with providing solutions to fix this issue. 

Our consultant helped to create a system that takes the information provided by the cameras, and makes them into invoices that can be sent out via invoicing company Ropo Capital. The system takes the license plate information of the driver that didn’t pay the fare, and creates the invoice based on the information provided. 

We wanted to ask Henri, the CEO of Parktech, about their experience of working with Marvel Consulting. Here is our interview!

Would you like to introduce yourself and how you ended up working for ParkTech?

“I'm Henri Ellonen, and I've been the CEO of Parktech Finland since 2021. I've been with the company for 11 years, starting as a maintenance worker and then working my way up to maintenance manager and eventually to top management. I joined ParkTech during my studies. I started part-time and gradually grew within the company.”

How would you introduce your company to someone who doesn't know anything about you?

“ParkTech is an ICT company with its own installation and maintenance operations. Our primary product is a paid parking management system, and we’re one of the world’s top 3 companies in this field. We are a part of the German Scheidt & Bachmann Gmbh group.”

How important are software products, digital technology, and the effective management of software issues to your company?

“Software products and digital technology are the core of our sales portfolio. While our parent company handles most of the development, we also engage in our own product development by making customer customizations and various adjustments to provide comprehensive solutions to our clients.

Ensuring the quality of our software is of paramount importance. The individuals responsible for software development have a substantial impact on our products, which we want to build in a future proof manner.”

What led to your choice of hiring a consultant for the project, and when would you recommend utilizing a software consultant for other companies?

“Our expertise lies more in maintenance than in product development. It makes more sense for us to bring in a consultant when needed, so we can obtain the required expertise and know-how when it is needed.

It's particularly beneficial if your company lacks specialized in-house expertise, as it's easier to find a competent person through a consultancy than going through the time-consuming process of recruiting one independently.”
